Last week, Kyal and Kara finished off their front, north facing deck that opens up from their living and dining area in Toowoon Bay Reno. They’ve created a beautiful space that is usable year-round. Kyal and Kara’s entertaining area is a great example of how to create a living space that extends from your home.
Let’s look at how they created the beautiful and functional space through their renovation.
Kyal and Kara replaced the old decking with golden coloured Australian Blackbutt timber. Their white Wideline Paragon French doors open up the indoor and outdoor living areas with elegance, and make a statement against the grey exterior walls. They also painted the detailed balcony railing white to give that beachy white-picket-fence look and contrast against the dark exterior of the house.
A large roof has been built over the deck to allow protection from the elements. Details like ceiling panelling add a cosy feel to the outdoor space. A graceful woven-look outdoor fan has been installed to provide relief on those hot summer days. This area can be used for entertaining all year.
Since the deck has been rebuilt larger than the original deck space, a great 8 seater table is able to be the centre piece of the area. Potted plants have been clumped together near the door to the master bedroom, which really gives the area life. A hanging chair has been installed on the other side of the Paragon French doors. There’s even space on the deck for herbs to be grown in pots for easy access from the kitchen.
Paragon French doors were the perfect door choice for the living space that Kyal and Kara have to work with. This upstairs area incorporates kitchen, living and dining, so the space has had to be used wisely. The Paragon French doors have been placed between the dining and living area and allow the room to be elegantly opened up to the outdoors, without compromising wall and furniture space.
A Bi-fold door or sliding stacking door would not have been as suitable for this space, since they have built-in bench seating for the dining area and a bench seat on the deck. Instead they smartly opted for large Paragon casement windows over the dining seats that let in light and air, and Paragon French doors next to the Paragon casement windows to allow indoor-outdoor access. We love the multi-functional outdoor space that Kyal and Kara have created. The area can be used for family meals, relaxing and entertaining guests’ year round. The deck space will improve their home lifestyle and perfectly exemplifies ideal Australian outdoor living. The quality of materials, contrast of colours and attention to detail is what gives this beach-side home a magic touch. Our favourite parts of the deck are definitely the beautiful Wideline French doors that connect the indoor/outdoor areas and the picture perfect Paragon casement windows in white. They really make a statement!
