This is it! The final reveal of Blue Lagoon Build. So excited to see it all come to life, yet sad that it has come to an end.
Before Kyal and Kara take a look back over the entire build process, it's time for landscaping and all those finishing touches in this final episode. The Livistona australis (cabbage-tree palms) are a commanding presence at the home's entryway and yard. It's a family affair getting all the plants potted front to back, alongside the pool it creates a lush coastal vibe.
Discovering all the little details in this facade design is a wonderful joy: from the coastal inspired front door, the use of louvre windows instead of fixed windows to play out the horizontal lines of the Hardie cladding, the front of the house with rendered curved wall, use of sandstone and crazy pavers. It all helps to achieve the look of an Aussie beach house with a Mediterranean touch.
The mix of materials both inside and out have a visual and tactile appeal, create volume and form layers that add dimension to the wonderful ambience.
Using a crisp external colour palette of Taubmans Secret White low sheen for the weatherboard, Textura Surfmist finished aluminium windows & doors with matching eaves and fascia, and Colorbond roof in Dune - all these external selections work beautifully with a coastal landscape and ties in the soft pinks and greys of the sandstone cladding.
The open plan kitchen ~ dining ~ living area means that kids, family and friends can move freely through the internal space and beyond to the villa style backyard and still feel part of the action. “Opening the sliding doors you immediately feel connected to the outside which is the entertainer’s dream” says Kyal.
An energy smart home was a big priority for the young family. They chose renewable energy source Clipsal solar panels and selected EnergyTech Clear double glazing insulated glass for every door and most windows in the home for improved thermal insulation.

"Grateful doesn’t even begin to sum up what I’m feeling right now. It’s been so much hard work but i’m so proud of what we’ve achieved" says Kyal.
"Those early mornings, breaking ground, seeing our walls come up and that vision coming to life. Yes the days are long and sometimes hard but I couldn’t
imagine doing anything else. We are so in love with this house. The kids are so stoked and we couldn’t be happier."
"So much of what we love about building and renovating isn’t the finished product it’s about the process. Which is why we’re on the hunt for our next project already!" Kara adds. "Before we start on our next project we’re going to take some time to enjoy our beautiful home together...and catch up on sleep". Lots. Of. Sleep.
This epic 8-part series been a monumental journey. Wideline is incredibly proud to be part of it.
