Embarking on a new build or renovation can be overwhelming but having a vision for the end result and some expert guidance is the first step in any successful project.

We asked The Block favourites and full-time renovators Kyal and Kara to take us through the five key steps in designing a reno and selecting windows and doors.

Step 1: Lock in your style

Having a consistent style will ensure you’re creating a home that flows and makes you proud! In this first episode of the Wideline Renovator Series, Kyal and Kara show us through three different mood boards to give you some tips to get the look you’re after for Hamptons, Modern Industrial and Modern Coastal style homes.

Step 2: Know your window type

Once you’ve narrowed down the style of your home, it’s time to look at what window types Wideline have on offer and placement options. Each style of window is going to operate a little different so it’s the perfect opportunity to make sure you pick the windows that function the way you intend.

Step 3: Know your door type

Now it’s time to select your doors. So it’s a good idea to know your door type! Much like windows there’s a few to choose from, and each one has a slightly different function and benefits that should be considered. Once we know how that space is going to be used we can make a decision.

Step 4: Know your glass type

Something that’s just as important as a beautiful home is a liveable home! And by that we mean comfort and liveability. You want to create a home not only looks great but feels cosy, by keeping the cool air in on those hot days and the warm air in through winter. You’d be surprised but this can come down to what type of glass you select for your home’s windows and doors, such as energy efficient glass and acoustic insulation glass options.

Step 5: Know your screens

Now that the window and door selections are all done there’s one final element: screens! You might be surprised but Wideline actually have five different screening systems that cater for safety, security, comfort and style.
